Artist's Description

Remembrance
Vietnam Memorial, Washington DC

It was a Wednesday before dawn. Fall colors had begun to yellow the foliage around the Vietnam Memorial I was preparing to photograph. Positioning my camera towards the distant Washington Monument, I waited as the light of the morning sky developed. Training had ingrained in me the importance of turning around to look behind and doing so yielded an immediate reward. The opposing side of the Wall was stunning. Engraved names appeared in a faint blur as the smooth black granite mirrored the surrounding memorial grounds. The separation between reflection and reality was almost imperceptible. A golden glow around the book containing names of 58,000 souls lost in the conflict told me the image would complete a photographic record of this iconic and solemn memorial. -Dan McGeorge
