Artist's Description

Pier of Peace
Imperial Beach, California

The Imperial Beach Pier has a unique structure. Under it pilings crisscross a confusing tangle of weather-beaten wood. One cloudy cold morning while crouched on the sand there I spotted a narrow opening between the beams that were being pounded by large surf and high tide. Nonetheless, there was a peacefully quiet feel there and a sense of tranquility. A long shutter speed allowed the movement of the water to be softened, presenting itself as it was perceived during this moment of solitude. -Dan McGeorge
