Moon Over Wizard Island
Crater Lake, Oregon

Photographing Crater Lake has been on the to-do list for a while. Having visited a few times though, conditions were unfortunately never perfect. With a full moonrise ahead another attempt just had to be made. The empty sky and a lack of reflection on the lake was sadly not encouraging once again. But then Mother Nature stepped in. As the moon rose, a powerful Belt-of-Venus effect began to develop. The earth�s shadow created a deep blue in the lower atmosphere, while the sunlit sky above radiated beautiful shades of pink. The moon itself rested just at the division of the two layers of the belt, creating a stunning and unusual sight that one�s imagination could have a field day with! It�s only fitting it would all happen above famed Wizard Island! -Dan McGeorge
