McWay Bay
Big Sur, California
The rumor of a beautiful bay with a waterfall tumbling into the sea led me to McWay Bay. It was more striking than described. My first attempts at photographing the bay failed due to light, sky and weather. For two more years I returned spending several evenings and mornings there watching and waiting. At last, late one evening standing there all alone, conditions were perfect. Positioned high above the railed wooden walkway a three minute timed exposure was manually measured and counted off by hand. The quickly darkening light would only allow for this one very long exposure. Incredible stillness in the air, the sound of gently lapping waves against the distant shore and the bay’s stunning visual beauty created a rare moment of pure tranquility and peace, forever captured in this special image. -Dan McGeorge
